In October 2004, WestCare incorporated as a nonprofit in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. WestCare provides substance abuse treatment services in eastern and central Kentucky.
Programs include: Camp Mariposa, Hal Rogers Appalachian Recovery Center – Men’s Residential Program (Ashcamp), Judi Patton Center for Healthy Families – Women’s Residential Program (Lookout), Pike County Detention Center (PCDC) – Men’s and Women’s Jail Recovery Program, SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, IMPACT Program, and Perry Cline Emergency Shelter (Pikeville).
Camp Mariposa
Camp Mariposa® Kentucky is a year-round addiction prevention and mentoring program for youth affected by the substance use disorder of a family member. Youth ages 9-12 attend weekend camps six times a year. Weekend camps offer fun, traditional camp activities combined with education and support sessions led by mental health professionals and trained adult mentors. Additional social activities are offered for youth and their families throughout the year. All program activities are offered free of charge to families. Judi Patton Center for Healthy Families
WestCare Kentucky's women's residential program provides intensive alcohol and other drug use treatment services, for adult females, in a female-only facility. The Lookout Center for Health Families (LCHF) serves female Veterans, justice involved females, pregnant, perinatal and postpartum, and females with SUD, OUD, and COD diagnoses.
The clinical curriculum is based on a modified therapeutic community model and utilizes empirically based, gender-specific, and trauma responsive treatment. Individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention, 12-step meetings, case management, peer support, nutrition, medically assisted treatment, life skills, GED, supportive employment services are some of the specific services offered. Our goal is to promote intrinsic motivation, assist clients in building a foundation that empowers them, and encourage clients to take ownership and responsibility for their recovery journey.
LCHF is a CARF and ASAM-accredited behavioral health and human services non-profit recognized for clinical excellence and collaborative innovation for coordinated continuity of care. We serve women from across the state of Kentucky and accept major KY Medicaid providers.
Hal Rogers Appalachian Recovery Center, Men's Residential Program
WestCare Kentucky's Men's Residential Program provides intensive alcohol and other drug abuse treatment services for adult males residing at the WestCare Kentucky Hal Rogers Appalachian Recovery Center. Men's Long-Term Residential services are provided in a male-only facility, and the clinical curriculum is designed to better serve the needs of men. The Men's Long-Term Residential Program allows for a stay in treatment a minimum of 90 days. We are also licensed for providing DUI assessments, education and treatment. This bed program services include specialized alcohol and drug curricula for adult male participants in a modified therapeutic community model of care. Services in the Men's Residential Program include: individual and group counseling; vocational skills development activities, including emphasis on technical skills; alcohol and drug education classes; relapse prevention; introduction to community-based support services; optional weekly onsite chapel services and community-based 12-Step meetings; family and significant other educational/support services; and HIV/AIDS education, parenting classes, and counseling. The focus and intensity of treatment is modified to accommodate the realistic/practical treatment needs of males as they begin admitting and embracing their own need for continuing recovery. The process of treatment in this program is one of discovery and sets a firm foundation to allow men to empower themselves and become responsible for their own recovery.
Pike County Detention Center Jail Recovery Program
WestCare Kentucky’s Jail Recovery Program, located inside the Pike County Detention Center (PCDC) in Pikeville, KY, provides long-term, intensive alcohol and other drug treatment services for incarcerated men and women. This licensed six-month program is designed specifically to serve individuals within the criminal justice system and support meaningful recovery while incarcerated.
PCDC is licensed under the Commonwealth of Kentucky as an Alcohol and Other Drug Entity Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program. The Recovery Program offers gender-responsive individual and group counseling, vocational skills training, alcohol and drug education, relapse prevention, and introduction to 12-Step meetings. A dedicated re-entry coordinator provides additional tools and support to strengthen successful reintegration.
Treatment intensity is tailored to meet the realistic, practical needs of each participant as they begin to embrace their recovery journey. Upon completion of the program and release from incarceration, individuals are eligible to transition to community residential services to continue treatment and receive support with re-entry.
This program is rooted in discovery and empowerment, helping participants build a strong foundation for lasting recovery and becoming productive members of their communities.
Perry Cline Emergency Shelter
WestCare Kentucky’s Perry Cline Emergency Shelter, located in Pikeville, Kentucky, provides temporary housing and supportive services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. The shelter serves adult men and women, as well as families from Pike County and surrounding areas.
The shelter can accommodate 15 men, 15 women, and 1 family at a time. Residents may stay up to 90 days, with extensions considered on a case-by-case basis.
While residing at the shelter, individuals receive support focused on housing stability and successful independent living. Services include assistance with housing placement, independent living skills development, financial literacy, adult education, employment readiness, money management, parenting skills, and connection to community resources.
Each resident participates in an individual assessment to help determine their specific needs and appropriate level of care. Based on those assessments, staff provide personalized case management and referrals to outside providers for services such as substance use treatment, mental health care, and other specialized supports. The goal is to help individuals and families build stability and transition successfully back into the community.
Rural Communities Opioid Response Program-IMPACT (RCORP-IMPACT)
WestCare Kentucky’s Rural Community Opioid Response Program-IMPACT (RCORP-IMPACT) is a multi-year initiative that addresses barriers to treatment for substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder. The program focuses on improving access to integrated, coordinated treatment and recovery services for substance use disorders in rural Pike, Floyd, and Letcher counties in Eastern Kentucky. RCORP–IMPACT uses a mobile clinic to establish and bring medically-assisted substance use disorder treatment and recovery services to these rural counties. RCORP–IMPACT has a Peer Academy to train individuals to become Peer Support Specialists, thereby increasing the SUD workforce and helping individuals in recovery access certified job training. RCORP–IMPACT also offers innovative, supportive services and a 20-Hour DUI education course. Approved by the state of Kentucky and Casey’s Law assessments, both services allow individuals and families to have access to other supportive treatment services.
Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP)
The WestCare KY, Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Program (SSG Fox SPGP) is a community-driven initiative aimed at curbing the alarming rates of Veteran suicide and associated risks. This program uniquely blends clinical and community-based referrals to deliver targeted interventions, catering to both VA healthcare participants and those outside the system.
At the core of WestCare's SSG Fox SPGP is the facilitation and coordination of suicide prevention services tailored for eligible individuals and their families. The overarching mission seeks to diminish Veteran suicide and its associated risks, bolster baseline mental health status, amplify general well-being, enhance social support, and promote financial stability for qualified individuals and their families. The program's diverse array of prevention services spans outreach initiatives, baseline mental health screening, educational campaigns, emergency clinical services, case management, peer support, assistance in obtaining VA benefits, coordination of public benefits, and aid with emergent needs.
WestCare's SSG Fox SPGP is a dynamic and integrated initiative designed to comprehensively address the multifaceted aspects of Veteran suicide prevention, contributing significantly to the holistic well-being of Veterans and their families.
