On Tuesday, December 2, WestCare Pacific Islands staff joined forces with the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services, the Guam Alternative Lifestyle Association, and local community members to host an awareness wave for passing motorists in observance of World AIDS Day. Holding signs of support and encouragement, the group came together to honor those lost to AIDS and to spotlight the care and prevention resources available in their community.
World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1st, is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, supporting those living with the condition, and remembering those who have lost their lives to the disease. Established in 1988, it was the first-ever global health day and serves as an opportunity to educate communities, combat stigma, and advocate for equitable access to care and prevention resources. The day is also a chance to highlight advancements in HIV treatment and prevention while emphasizing the ongoing need to address health disparities and work toward an AIDS-free future. The theme for World AIDS Day often varies each year, focusing on different aspects of the fight against HIV/AIDS. Learn more here: https://worldaidsday.org/
