WestCare Texas’ team in Laredo was honored with a site visit from the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) to review the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program and receive strategic input from us about the challenges faced by drug prevention organizations working next to the U.S.-Mexico border. During the visit, Laredo’s Family Assistance & Community Empowerment (F.A.C.E.) Coalition members shared stories about the drug smuggling and human trafficking of children along the border. This meeting provided ONDCP with firsthand feedback to take back to the White House to address border security and trafficking. Coalition members in attendance included local law enforcement, educators, behavioral health professionals, local elected officials, school officials, businesses, and substance abuse prevention specialists.
