On December 12, 2017, WestCare Foundation received word from Dr. Brian J. Boon, President/CEO of the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) that WestCare Pacific Islands (WPI) has been issued CARF accreditation based on a survey conducted in November 2017.

The Three-Year Accreditation, which extends through November 20, 2020, applies to all four of WPI’s programs in addressing the respective CARF standards:

  • Support Services for Veteran Families (Rapid Rehousing and Homelessness Prevention Programs)

  • Guam Healthy Relationships Education Program (Prevention: Family Services for Adults)

  • Personal Responsibility Education Program (Prevention: Family Services for Children and Adolescents)

  • Guahan Project (Prevention: Psychosocial Rehabilitation for Adults)

In the report from Dr. Boon, CARF noted that:

  • “On balance, WestCare Pacific Islands, Inc. demonstrated substantial conformance to the standards. WestCare Pacific Islands is a very unique and seldom seen organization. It is clear it has done a thorough and complete job of integrating CARF standards in both the administrative and clinical programs, and it was evident that everyone was involved in the process at all levels.”

  • “. . . The organization has retained and incorporated the island’s culture and values to give it a very individual flavor. It was evident from all stakeholders and persons served that this is what has made this organization one of the premier services on the island.”

  • “Caring staff and management of the organization truly reflect Chamorro culture and spirit in all areas and it shines in all the programs.”

  • “WestCare Pacific Islands, Inc. appears likely to maintain and/or improve its current method of operation and demonstrates a commitment to ongoing quality improvement.”

  • Sarah Thomas Nededog, Senior Vice President for WestCare Pacific Islands, commented that, “the CARF accreditation represents a recognition from a national organization that WestCare Pacific Islands meets standards expected of all organizations throughout the United States. The accreditation should assure stakeholders and clients that WestCare Pacific Islands is committed to serve our island community in ways that meet the needs of those we serve and make a difference in lives of individuals and our community as a whole.”

WestCare Pacific Islands is the first HIV/AIDS service organization in our region to receive accreditation.
