Camp Mariposa – St. Petersburg headed back to overnight camp and we all had a lot of fun reconnecting with each other. Camp Mariposa is a year-round prevention mentoring program where we provide a weekend camp experience at no cost to the families. Our campers have someone in their life dealing with addiction and the goal of Camp Mariposa is to provide them with the skills to make healthy choices. Camp is a place where they can be themselves and realize that they are not alone. During our February camp, our campers learned about goals, the difference between short and long-term goals, and why they are essential. They participated in team-building exercises that strengthened their communication skills. We also did some art that they took home to provide positive affirmations about themselves. This is only a snippet of camp and all the activities during the weekend that enrich the campers’ lives.
