On February 28, WestCare Tennessee and the Prevention Alliance of Cocke County (PACC), conducted its first Family Fun Event at the Boys and Girls Club of Newport, Tennessee. Over-the-counter medicines, primarily cough medicines containing dextromethorphan, were the topic of focus. The event was intended to engage club members and their family members in discussing ideas that they could use to keep their homes safe from possible abuse of these medicines. Club members worked with a family member to paint a picture showing how they can keep their home safe. A PowerPoint presentation was available for viewing and flyers were available to take home with information about this subject. There were 37 youth and nine adults that participated in the event. A meal was also provided for participants by Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. Thank you to our amazing community partners who came together and contributed to help make this important awareness event possible!
