Recreational Therapy with Radio Control Rock Crawlers

  • Post category:Oregon

By Brittany Crauder, HVRP Case Manager

On September 7th, four VETcare clients participated in a group therapy session focusing on recreational therapy.  They all participated outdoors with radio control rock crawlers donated by Honoring Heroes! The purpose of recreational therapy is to improve or maintain physical, cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual functioning to facilitate full participation in life.

Throughout this activity, our four clients learned how to appropriately address and respond to each other’s needs while maintaining the group’s structure and process. This was a great way for our Veterans to work on developing and using replacement behaviors to cope with emotional distress and decreasing self-deprecation.
