At Guidance/Care Center by WestCare in the Keys, the work of compassionate service and community healing was officially recognized by the City of Key West. During this week’s regular meeting, Mayor Danise “DeeDee” Henriquez and the Key West City Commission proclaimed May 12–18 as Guidance/Care Center Week, acknowledging the Center’s dedication to behavioral health and wellness across the Florida Keys.

“The City of Key West takes great pride in recognizing agencies who strive to better the lives of our residents through continuous dedication and commitment,” the proclamation read.

Led by Senior Vice President Maureen Dunleavy, the Guidance/Care Center (GCC) provides a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health care, serving individuals and families through every stage of need. This includes:

  • A 24/7 crisis hotline and mobile crisis response
  • Services integrated into schools, jails, and juvenile detention
  • Residential care at The Heron, a supportive living facility for adults with mental illness
  • Inpatient detox and crisis stabilization
  • The Personal Growth Center Clubhouse, a space for adult recovery and empowerment

“We are the silent support to help people cope and change when we have crises or community crises or just trauma in our lives,” said Dunleavy as she accepted the honor.

Through its programs, GCC has helped thousands of Keys residents navigate mental health and substance use challenges, offering support that sustains families, restores housing stability, and inspires individuals to contribute meaningfully to their community.

As WestCare’s home in the Keys, the Guidance/Care Center continues to be a pillar of strength and hope for those seeking healing.
