The newly established WestCare Fleet Department is already making a meaningful impact, advancing driver safety initiatives designed to protect our staff, the individuals and families we serve, and the communities where we operate.
Transportation plays an important role in WestCare’s ability to provide services safely and reliably across our programs. From residential services and child welfare programs to mobile response and other community-based services, our vehicles help our teams meet people where they are. Ensuring those vehicles are operated safely is an important part of supporting WestCare’s broader commitment to quality care and responsible service.
In July, Vice President of Insurance Joshua Lopez and Fleet Manager Alex Demarrias traveled to Florida to complete one of the Fleet Department’s first major safety initiatives at two WestCare programs.
During their visit, the team successfully installed 37 Lytx in-vehicle safety cameras:
- The Village South – 24 cameras
- 13 for the Child Welfare and Mobile Response programs
- 11 for the Adult Residential program
- The Guidance/Care Center – 13 cameras
The Lytx systems are designed to help identify driving risks, reinforce safe driving habits, and provide meaningful coaching opportunities before incidents occur. By giving teams greater insight into driving behaviors, the technology supports a proactive approach to reducing risk and creating safer experiences for employees, clients, and community members alike.
The project represents more than the installation of new technology. It is part of WestCare’s continued investment in the systems and infrastructure that allow our programs to serve communities safely and effectively.
As the Fleet Department continues to develop and strengthen fleet operations across WestCare, initiatives like this will help establish consistent safety practices, provide programs with valuable resources, and support a culture of continuous improvement.
